The Sunday sessions start at 11am and we have a lovely 3 hour session till 2pm. In these sessions, you will learn to construct an Islamic Geometric pattern. Starting with a plain piece of paper, step by step we will draw layers of lines and circles using a compass and straight edge. From this underlying grid a pattern will emerge. We will outline, trace and transfer the pattern to watercolour paper, to be decorated using watercolour pencils & paints. Some are able to complete a painting in this in the time, others prefer to ease the pressure and finish off at home. If you do wish to finish, let me know so I can advise you on the size of your piece, colours and help you to complete your painting.
Each month has a theme so we will draw patterns from a particular corner of the Islamic world or focus on a pattern or family of patterns connected by style or colour. If the theme is repeated later on the year, it'll be a new pattern/set of patterns from that region.
All are welcome, no experience is needed and all resources & materials are provided for attendees aged 14+. Step by step PDF guides are emailed to you to accompany all pattern(s) taught at the workshop. The patterns can be be painted repeatedly, trying out different colour schemes and materials. If your're not sure which resources to use at home, there's plenty for you to try out at the workshop. I also have a list of recommendations you can check out.
