In these full day sessions, you will learn to construct a different Islamic Geometric patterns. Starting with a plain piece of paper, step by step we will draw layers of lines and circles using a compass and straight edge. From this underlying grid a pattern will emerge. We will outline, trace and transfer the pattern to watercolour paper, to be decorated using watercolour pencils & paints.
We usually draw a range of Islamic Geometric patterns in the morning and then transfer one or more patterns to watercolour paper to paint in the afternoon and carry on at home. We take break aroun 1.30 to 2.30pm.
Each month will have a theme to allow us to gain greater insight in that particular era, location or family of patterns. Each time we'll journey back in time to a different part of the Islamic Lands to celebrate the intellect of the unknown artists and geometers who created such beauty. If a theme is repeated, it will be a new set of patterns each time.
All are welcome, no experience is needed and all resources & materials are provided for attendees aged 14+. Step by step guides are emailed to you to accompany all pattern(s) taught at the workshop. The patterns can be be painted repeatedly, trying out different colour schemes and materials. If your're not sure which resources to use at home, there's plenty for you to try out at the workshop.
