Following the success of the Wednesday full day sessions, I'll be continuing both the Sunday & Wednesday monthly sessions at Cass Art Kingston well in to 2020! Each month has a theme so we will draw patterns from a particular corner of the Islamic world or focus on a family of patterns connected by , style or colour. If the theme is repeated, it'll be a new pattern/set of patterns.
In either session, you will learn to construct a different Islamic Geometric pattern(s). Starting with a plain piece of paper, step by step we will draw layers of lines and circles using a compass and straight edge. From this underlying grid a pattern will emerge. We will outline, trace and transfer the pattern to watercolour paper, to be decorated using watercolour pencils & paints.
All are welcome, no experience is needed and all resources & materials are provided for attendees aged 14+. Step by step guides are emailed to you to accompany all pattern(s) taught at the workshop. The patterns can be be painted repeatedly, trying out different colour schemes and materials. If your're not sure which resources to use at home, there's plenty for you to try out at the workshop. I also have a list of recommendations you can check out.
In the fuill day Wednesday session, we'll be drawing a few patterns in the morning and transfer one or more in the afternoon session for particpants to paint. It's entirely flexible if you wish to spend more time drawing or painting as I provide PDF guides for all the patterns enabling you to work independently as you wish I'm there to help as needed. We usually take a lunch break from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Book 4 Wednesdays for £38 each (£152)*. Do get in touch if you'd like to join in for a half day - let's work around those school runs!
Sunday sessions resume in April, with a slightly earlier start of 11am, still a 2 and half hour session, wrapping up at 1.30pm. In these sessions we draw, transfer and paint one pattern. Some are able to complete a painting in this in the time, others prefer to ease the pressure and finish off at home. If you do wish to finish, let me know so I can advise you on the size of your piece, colours and help you to complete your painting. Book 4 Sunday for a discounted price of £18 per workshop (£72)*.
